Projects and Research

In addition to its degree offerings, the Center seeks to further the Gospel by means of several cooperative projects. We participate with other Great Commission organizations in a Church Mapping Project which attempts to pinpoint areas of the globe that have a viable church presence and other areas which do not. We have also initiated a Missiological Roundtable in which our students and faculty interview missionaries and theologians from around the world and record, in digital format, their thoughts on matters related to the Great Commission.

Missions Atlas Project

The Missions Atlas Project (MAP) is an attempt to pick up the challenge Charles H. Fahs issued in 1925, namely to establish an accurate base map of the world (at least a 1:1,000,000 projection). With recent advances in computer and Internet technologies, this goal is more attainable than ever.

On that base map will be built a depiction of all the inhabited cities, towns and villages of the world. MAP will collate the most accurate data available, depicting the locations of all known evangelical churches in their habitat locations throughout the world and integrating correlating data that yields strategic implications (such as languages spoken, population figures, identifiable people groups, ratio of churches to people by provincial levels and beyond).

Missions Atlas Project exists as a partnership between:

  •      Campus Crusade for Christ International
  •      DAWN Ministries
  •      Habitats Project
  •      International Mission Board (Southern Baptist)
  •      JESUS Film Project
  •      Southeastern Seminary (Southern Baptist)
  •      Southwestern Seminary (Southern Baptist)
  •      Midwestern Seminary (Southern Baptist)
  •      Youth With A Mission (YWAM)

Southeastern’s role in the project focuses on Churches in Habitat. The associate director of the Center For Great Commission Studies, Ed Pruitt, travels the globe extensively, working with Christian nationals in an effort to research the status of Christianity within a particular country. In the past decade, Pruitt has traveled to and gathered the available data for 65 countries.

Missiological Roundtable

The Missiological Roundtable provides the missions world at large, and Southeastern students in particular, the opportunity to listen to interviews that the CGCS has conducted with global missiological and theological leaders. The purpose of these interviews is to gain insight into current trends in missiology and global theology by listening to key figures in their respective fields of expertise and experience. An index of names and major subjects is available at the link below. Call the CGCS office to determine if the desired interview is available by audio copy. See the Interviews page for transcripts.

Revelation 5:9
And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,
