Academics

A Southeastern education is rooted in the conviction that faithful learning is a part of being a disciple of Jesus Christ.  Southeastern’s faculty is committed to the integration of faith and learning, and at Southeastern we abide by the motto, “Every classroom, a Great Commission classroom.” We hope that in every course you will be challenged have a heart for the nations and equipped to serve in Great Commission churches and Great Commission agencies wherever God may call you.  The Southeastern Mission Statement reflects this commitment: Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary seeks to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping students to serve the church and fulfill the Great Commission.

Our confessional statements, the Abstract of Principles  and the Baptist Faith & Message, affirm the Bible as the authoritative Word of God. The Scriptures serve as the foundational text for all we do at Southeastern. Consistent with this commitment to biblical fidelity, our faculty covenant to teach in accordance with and not contrary to the Abstract of Principles and the Baptist Faith & Message.  The faculty also seeks to develop the following Core Competencies in every student who attends Southeastern: 

• Spiritual Formation: Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a vital Christian life and witness manifest in all personal relationships and vocational endeavors.
• Biblical Exposition: Gain a basic comprehension of Scripture and learn to interpret and communicate it properly and effectively.
• Theological Integration: Understand and apply the doctrines of Christianity to all areas of life and ministry.
• Christian Leadership: Cultivate a godly disposition marked by wisdom, humility, and grace, and develop skills to lead effectively in the church and world.
• Ministry Preparation: Acquire and apply knowledge and skills necessary for Christian ministry.
