The Center

Patterson HallThe L. Russ Bush Center for Faith and Culture embodies the life and ministry of Dr. L. Russ Bush whose name it bears.  Dr. Bush served as professor of philosophy and academic dean at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1989 to 2006 after which time he served as the director of the Center until his untimely death.  The Center, which was established in 2006, is a ministry of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is housed in Southeastern’s newest building, Patterson Hall.  It provides an intellectually congenial environment within which intellectual virtues are promoted among those dedicated to the pursuit of truth and committed to the task of demonstrating its implications for all areas of cultural life.  The Center seeks to bring the Christian faith to bear upon all areas of life through helping others to think and to act Christianly in both private and public discourse.  The commitment of the Center places it at the intersection of theology and culture forming a bridge between the two thereby bringing a Christian worldview to the issues and concerns of humanity and encouraging conversation between those of differing opinions.  The Center’s goal is to be theological in purpose, cultural in awareness, redemptive in nature, and charitable in disposition.  It is dedicated to providing a responsible voice in the public square and in the Church, speaking Christianly both in content and in spirit to the issues and concerns facing contemporary culture.
