Course Formats at Southeastern

The majority of courses are held in person and on campus. These courses allow you to learn alongside fellow students and receive face-to-face instruction from our world-class faculty.

Intensive classes are offered outside of the normal fall and spring semesters. These courses are your typical 3 credit hour courses pushed into 1-2 weeks of meeting time. During the weeks of your intensive course, you will meet each day with homework and assessments comparable to a normal 3 credit course. These classes are typically only offered during Fall Break, Spring Break, and in January.

Weekend courses (WKND) meet in-person over the course of two or more weekends.

Online (ONL) sections meet exclusively online and use pre-recorded lectures.

ONL2: ONL2 sections meet exclusively online and use pre-recorded lectures. They offer a secondary section to the most popular ONL classes.

ONL8: ONL8 sections meet exclusively online and use pre-recorded lectures. These sections meet for a total of 8 weeks during the semester, half of the usual 16-week term length. Often, classes offered as ONL8 include 2-part classes, such as New Testament 1 and New Testament 2. Students are encouraged to take these class pairs consecutively in the same semester, providing a way to earn more credits in less time.

Hybrid sections combine online lectures and assignments with one weekend of required on-campus class time. These meetings provide a designated time for students to interact with other students and professors while completing most of the classwork at a distance.

Conference sections offer course credit for attending a specific conference in conjunction with applicable online coursework.

LIVE sections meet synchronously online as part of an on-campus class. Online students will attend class synchronously via Microsoft Teams.

The Equip Network empowers churches and ministry organizations to offer accredited and accessible courses to students at the highest level of theological training. The Equip Network weds the seminary experience with real life ministry opportunities to provide students with the most integrative ministry training available.

Interactive Online sections utilize mandatory synchronous events that take place weekly via Microsoft Teams in conjunction with recorded lectures.

Spanish courses (SPAN) are offered as part of one of Southeastern’s Hispanic cohort degree programs.
